Considering this is supposed to be the spookiest day of the year, nothing extremely spooky seems to have happened today in history. You can see for yourself.

On This Day In….

1941: While escorting a convoy of war material to Britain, the destroyer Reuben James is torpedoed and becomes the first U.S. warship to be sunk by hostile action during World War II.

1956: American rear admiral George John Dufek is the first person to land an airplane at the South Pole.

1984: Indira Gandhi is assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards.

I will try and get some better pictures later when it gets dark.

It has been pretty dark and smokey around here lately. There have been a lot of fires around here. The other day, Wednesday or Thursday I think, it was the worst. There is still a slight smoke smell in the air, but the sky seems to be clear. Luckily, none of the fires came close to us.

Also, we went to the church last night like I said. It was more like a rock concert about Jesus. Carolynn liked it. We might go again next week.

Beware!

Today we have many plans. First David got up early and started looking for a new job. He has a pretty good chance at Wal-Mart. Then we went to the beach. We took the kids to the same beach I took those pictures at last weekend. We took a nice picnic and all of our sand castle building toys. We have a bunch. Dee Ann from work gave us a bunch more too.

a) A bat flying into the house
b) An owl hooting 3 times
c) Three butterflies together
d) Hearing a rooster crow at night
e) Getting out of bed left foot first
f) A picture falling

2. If a robin flies into a room through a window, death will shortly follow.

3. You must hold your breath while going past a cemetery or you will breathe in the spirit of someone who has recently died.

4. If a woman is buried in black, she will return to haunt the family.

5. If a dead person's eyes are left open, he will find someone to take with him.

6. Mirrors in a house with a corpse should be covered or the person who sees himself will die next.

7. It is bad luck to walk under a ladder.

8. To break a mirror means 7 years bad luck.

9. It is unlucky to see your face in a mirror by candlelight.

10. Bad luck will follow the spilling of salt unless a pinch is thrown over the left shoulder into the face of the devil waiting there.

11. If 13 people sit down at a table to eat, one of them will die before the year is over.

12. It is bad luck to open an umbrella inside the house, especially if you put it over your head.

13. The play Macbeth is considered the unluckiest play in theatre. It is such bad luck that actors do not like to mention the title. They refer to it as "The Scottish Play" or "Mr. and Mrs. M" or "That Play".

Boo!

Some time back, right about the time I noticed my kids stopped caring about this website, I started monitoring it. Today I have compiled my research. Here is what I have found.

27% of people who visit this website do so from AOL. This would include my Aunt and Uncle, my Grandma when she is at home, and possibly my parents and sister.

17% of visits to this site come from my office. This is me updating.

17% of the visitors to this site come from unknown places.

14% of the visits come from Williamsburg, Virginia. This would be my friend Heather.

8% of the visits to this site come from Barre, Vermont. This is my friend Trish.

6% of the visits to this site come from San Bernardino County Goverment Offices. This has to be my mom checking at work.

5% of the visits come from a law firm in Indianapolis, Indiana. These ones are my friend Cari at work.

2% of this sites visits come from a real estate office in El Cajon, California. This is my Grandma checking from work.

2% of the visits come from Roseville, California. I am pretty sure this is my friend Paula.

2% of the visits come from Garland, Texas. This is David's dad and David's sister.

So that is it. These are our readers. Just so you know. Feel free to pass this site along to anyone else you feel might enjoy it.

Next, my roast turned out delicious. It was so easy. Next week we are going to try a new crock-pot recipe since this one worked out so well. Yesterday, I saw an ad for the season premiere of Medium. I love that show. I was afraid it had been cancelled. I am glad it hasn’t. Tonight is CSI. Also, check out a new link in our "Link" section, DeDe's Delightful Boutique. Another new addition over there is our trivia scoreboard. Give our trivia game a try.

Do You See Dead People?

Today we have several entries to our Halloween “X-Files”.

First, I got these pictures from my Uncle Steve of the inside of the Whaley House, which was featured in yesterdays Haunted Places. He and my Aunt say they have seen ghosts here. I have been there too, but I saw no ghosts.

Last night I watched the movie Memoirs of a Geisha. It was pretty good. It had the same two women from the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which I also liked. Those two women have to be two of the most beautiful women in the entire world. They should be eliminated for making the rest of us look like a bunch of ugly people. Them and Angelina Jolie. How dare they go around in public making all others pale in comparison!

My friend Dee Ann from work got me a bunch of recipes for dinner made in the crock-pot. I hardly ever use mine, but it sounded like a good idea since I work all day and I am the only one who cooks. Well, unless you count Peanut Butter and Jelly, frozen pizza, and Top Ramen. So anyway, today I am trying my first one. We are having pot roast with carrots, celery, and potatoes. The only things I had used my crock pot for before was making macaroni and cheese with ham casserole and melting nacho cheese. I will let you know how it turned out.

Where Is David?
