All Shook Up

So, here I was, sitting on my couch, minding my own business, when the house started shaking. It had already been a busy morning. We got up early and took our recycling to the recycling center. We got ourselves a big $14. Then I dropped David and Carolynn off at the movie theater to see The Dark Knight. (There went the $14.) They said it was awesome. After I dropped them off, I went to the bank to order new checks with our new address on them. I have a full box somewhere with our old address. I have no idea where. I may have sent them through the shredder. I do not write many checks. Anyway, after the bank I stopped at a Jack In The Box and got some French toast sticks for Catherine. Then we went to Kids Kuts so Catherine could get a new school hair-do. It is very cute, but I forgot to take a picture. I will try to remember tomorrow. Then we came home. I sat on my couch with my laptop and began filling out some online forms and stuff for a job opportunity. There I was, minding my own business, thinking, “Hey, I could work at a prison.” (Stop laughing! I could so work at a prison. I am a tough cookie.) Then the whole house started shaking. It did not last long. By the time I registered, “Oh damn, that is an earthquake.” it was already over. I got up to check Catherine, who was barely phased. She was in her room building a fort and watching a movie. It freaked David out. It was his first earthquake. He was in the theater at the time.

Anyway, after the house shook, and after David and Carolynn got home from the movies, I set off to run a bunch of my own errands. I went back to the bank, to the DMV, paid the rent, and signed Carolynn up for her baton class. The cooking class Catherine wanted was full, so she can find a new activity in the fall. We had tacos for dinner. Tuesday is Taco Night at Del Taco. We have not been eating out because we need to save, but we splurged this once. I got tacos for everyone for $9.00. I know I am such a big spender.

Today was my friend Heather’s birthday. Happy Birthday!!!! I would send the See’s Candy, but no job means no money. However, I will send it when I get a fabulous new job. That will happen any second now. David has an interview tomorrow. I have a test for a job on Thursday and an interview next Wednesday. (Seriously, I could work at a prison.)

Until tomorrow...

It’s Late

I know I have not been a bundle of fun around here as of late. I am seriously stressed out a lot and frankly, no one wants to read about every day I have no job. Besides, I have a hard time finding time to write stuff. You would think I would have plenty of time, being all unemployed and all, but that is not true. I consider blogging a fun activity and I cannot seem to allow myself to do fun stuff. If I try and do something… watch TV, read, blog… I cannot concentrate because all I think about is how I need to find a job and my time would be better served looking for a job. I look for jobs all day. I stop only to clean the house, clean the yard, or when my mom asks me to. She has been a rock let me tell you. She and I go to the weekly concerts in the park. This week is the last one. We have been to see Mamma Mia and Wall-E. Both were pretty good. But then I have guilt, not only because I wasn’t job hunting, but because my mom is always doing this stuff for us. I have no way of paying her back. Well, I did cook her dinner and David and I painted a room for her, but that really does not feel like enough.

To top off my unemployment depression, I am not sleeping either. I know I must be just a super person to live with. I am sure David will be moving out soon and the children will probably go with him. David tends to keep his worries to himself, but you can see them in his stomach issues… I will not say more. However, he is stressed too.

I have been on a few interviews, I am taking tests for government jobs, and I am searching everyday. So far, my luck has not been good. I keep telling myself I must be due for some good luck anytime now.

Keep an eye on the Carolynn site. She finished one book recently and she is nearly done with another. She has some ideas she was telling me for other stuff. Tomorrow morning she and David are going to see The Dark Knight. They are using the money they will get from taking the bottles and cans to the recycling center.

I got another cute little blog award from one of my favorite blogging buddies. It comes with directions to pass it along… so I pass it along to all my readers. You know who you are. Thanks Pam!

That is it. Thanks for continuing to read… even though I am such a bummer. As soon as I have a job, I promise to be my super cool, extremely perky self.

And The Award Goes To...

Me! Of course. Yea Me!

It's nice to know I have so much internet love out there. And here it is...

I got this fabulous award from my dear blogging buddy, Eve... an all around great blogger, reader, and Mary Kay lady. She makes Idaho sound cool.

As for folks I'd like to bestow this one upon myself, my first choice would have to be Lotus at Sarcastic Mom. Her blog is filled of humor and crazy insane lust for certain vacuum cleaners. I absolutely adore it. However, Eve also bestowed this glamorous award upon her. So my second choice would have to be Dawn at Because I Said So. Who knew having six kids could be so funny...

********************

This amazing award was so generously bestowed upon me by my real actual friend Trish, without whom I probably would have gone crazy by now. This award comes with directions...

1. Put the logo on your blog. I did that.

2. Add a link to the person who awarded you. Duh... Got that done too.

3. Nominate at least seven other blogs. Hmmmmm..... I don't think I like 7 people that much....

4. Add links to those blogs on your blog. Well, here goes nothing...

This award goes to...

Mom (That's my mom... Arlene to everyone else) @ Three Baseball Fanz- Because she is my mom.

Lotus @ Sarcastic Mom- Because she has nice bewbs :)

Forgetfulone- Because she rocks and makes English teachers cool.

Eve @ AdamsWife's Weblog- Because she is rocks too. (Yeah, I know she already got this one, but she deserves it twice.)

Carolynn@ Carolynn's Ocean View- Because she is my kid and she tries.

Sarah @ The World Of Sarah- Because she is my sister and I am stuck with her.

Ummm.... I know that is only 6, but seriously, those are all good ones, except maybe my sister... HAHAHAHAHA Sarah! No really, Trisha just nominated two other blogs I read, and I read hers, and that is pretty much all of them. I need to expand my blog community, I know. So take six or leave. Your choice.

5. Leave a message for your nominee on their blog. I'll work on that... If you are one of these people, consider yourself notified.

Thursday 13- Edition 17

Yesterday we celebrated David’s Day. Catherine came up with this a couple of years ago. It was Father’s Day and she had made some kind of project at school for fathers. She tried to give it to David, who is not a father. He would not take it and she got really upset. Her dad had not been gone very long and she was going through sort of a rough time. I had a talk with her and she said since they have Mother’s Day and Father’s Day… We should have a David’s Day. David does help me keep track of the kids, help around the house, help with the bills and does fun stuff with us. So we picked a random Sunday in July, it was July 23, and called it David’s Day. We have been doing it ever since. Yesterday, for David’s Day, we made spaghetti for dinner and played some games. So here, in honor of David’s Day, here are thirteen things about David.

1. David is from Texas.
2. David is 20 years old.
3. David’s birthday is in November.
4. David’s dad is also named David.
5. David previously worked at Wal-Mart.
6. David has one brother and one sister; Bert and Gena
7. David’s mom lives near Houston, Texas and his dad lives near Dallas, Texas.
8. David’s grandpa was a submarine captain in the Navy.
9. David is good with computers. He built his and he worked in electronics at Wal-Mart.
10. David puts peanut butter on practically everything; sandwiches, toast, waffles, pancakes, eggs, burritos…
11. David worked at PetSmart before he worked at Wal-Mart.
12. David loves animals. He would have 10 dogs if we could. We have two cats though.
13. David’s favorite food is pizza.

A Evening At The Beach

Mamma Mia!

OH MY GOSH! This movie came out today. Carolynn and I are so dying to see it. If anyone out there sees it, let me know if it is totally and completely as awesome as it looks.

Oh Brother

Today is my brother’s birthday. He is 29 today. I guess he is getting pretty old. He finally caught up with me. I have been 29 for a few years now.

Last night’s concert in the park was not as good as last week’s concert. They were not a terrible band, but they were no Beach Boys. They were a surfer band and they did sing some Beach Boys music. I am sure I will have a video later. We did not stay for the whole thing, so it will not be a long video. I will use real Beach Boys music.

My mom got the girls some new backpacks and back to school clothes yesterday. The girls will be going back to school in style. My mom also brought me some new skirts for interviewing. I hope that they will bring me luck.

Later, Carolynn is going to a video game thing at the library. It is free. I like free.

That is all for now. Be sure and check out my mom’s blog. I wrote something over there

Girls Day Out

Today my mom came and took Carolynn and me to the nail salon and we all got our nails and toes done. It was a fun time and very girly. We went to a newer nail place near the SuperTarget. They did a fine job. Here are a few pictures of our new looks. Thanks Mom for a fun and girly adventure.

Cricket in Times Square

I finished Cricket in Time Square a few weeks ago but we moved and such. It’s a good book my favorite part was Tucker mouse sleeps in the cricket cage with the dollar and diamond earring. The sad part was when the cricket leaves.I also like the part were the cricket eats Chinese food with the Chinese people. Out of five stars I give it four.

Aloha

Adjusting

Adjusting from living in an apartment and being employed to living in a house and being unemployed has been interesting. You might think keeping a house that is twice as big would be harder. However, we find it easier as there is finally a place to put all of this stuff. The girls have their own rooms, so there is no more fighting over who should clean it. (You see this fist…) There is more room for us all to spread out so there is less conflict. Even the cats are happy they can go outside, and I am happy the litter box has been put out in the garage.

Being unemployed is a little harder. You may think it would be nice to have all this free time on my hands, but frankly, I would rather be working. I feel like I am forgetting to do something. I look for jobs everyday. I will have one soon. I know it. David will too.

Today I am going to a little get together at my brother’s house. My goal there is to get a whole family picture. Won’t that be cool?

Thursday Thirteen- Edition 15

Yesterday's high was 108 degrees. Aren't we glad we moved from the perfect weather of San Diego to the desert?

Thirteen Ways To Keep Cool

1. Home Air Conditioning- Ours doesn't seem to be working right. I can set it to 50 degrees and the air blowing never gets any cooler. I am going to call on that tomorrow.
2. Car Air Conditioning- Mine doesn't work. I took it to the dealership, they said they fixed it, it worked for a day, and now it doesn't work. They better fix it or someone owes me $171.00.
3. Water Bottles- We've gone through 3 cases in a week and a half.
4. Cold Washcloth- I keep mine in the freezer.
5. Ice Cream- My refrigerator was delivered today, so tomorrow I intend to get some. 6. Electric Fans- We have one in my livingroom, one in Catherine's room and a ceiling fan in my room. We need more fans.
7. Cold Showers- Our water heater was broken until yesterday, so we took a few of those.
8. Pools- There is a public pool nearby, the girls' aunts have a pool at their house, and we have a wading pool in the back yard.
9. Shopping- Well, if you have the money. If you have the willpower, you can shop for things you may want to purchase in the future and enjoy the free air conditioning in the stores.
10. Sprinklers- We have some in the front yard, but the yard is too crappy right now. This may work next summer though.
11. Getting Naked- This will only work if you are home alone. However, the cats and the turtle may never be the same.
12. Ice Cubes- Carolynn sucks them, we put them in drinks and in the cats water dish.
13. Watching Christmas Movies- Sing Jingle Bells, watch White Christmas, and psych yourself out.

I know I missed it last week, but I was moving. Sorry.

Ewwww!

Today I was going to get up, put on my skirt and blouse, go out, and get a job. That was my plan. So this morning I got up got out the clothes and went to get in the shower…

My tub was filled of sludge. The toilet in there was stopped up too. I went down the hall to the girls’ bathroom and found the same. Therefore, instead of going out, I am waiting for a plumber. I still applied at a bunch of places online and I mailed out four resumes. However, I had better not go places looking all sweaty and smelly.

David managed to get in a shower before the sludge so he went out. He went to the movie theater, a Radio Shack, Albertson’s, and a few others. He’ll have a job in no time.

Well, I am off to wait for that plumber. He will be here sometime before 4.

Home Again

I have been exhausted. Moving is hard work. We have a house and we like it. That is the best part. Here is a picture of our house.

I know the yard needs some help, but we will work on it. We do not exactly live in the main part of town. In fact, here is a picture taken in my front yard looking across the street.

Last night we had a very clear view of the town fireworks show. From the yard, we could also see a few others from around the area. It was cool.

Soon I will have to create a video of our new home. The inside is coming along. As I mentioned before, my Grandpa bought us a new refrigerator that will be here on Wednesday. Today he took Carolynn out and bought her a new bed. He really needs to stop spending his money on us. He needs it for his stuff. However, it made him really happy to make Carolynn really happy and he is old and difficult to argue with. So what can I do? Nothing. They already delivered the bed. My mom bought her new bedding and posters and a little desk for her laptop. I will let her tell about it on her website though.

Tomorrow, my mom’s friend Karen and her husband Rex will be bringing us a new couch and loveseat. Our little house is shaping up very nicely. Thanks to all the help from our family and friends.

Today my mom took Catherine to the Home Depot to their children’s workshop where she built a birdhouse. She got a birdhouse kit for Carolynn and one for Allison too. They do projects once a month and she is excited to go back. She collected a birdhouse pin for being there this time, and is ready to see what kind of pin you get next time. Next week they are having a similar workshop at the Lowe’s near our house. While they were at the Home Depot, my mom and Catherine had spare keys made for me. Carolynn’s new key lights up, Catherine’s new key has Mickey Mouse, David’s new key has the St. Louis Rams, and mine looks like an American flag. They are very cool. She tried to find a Dallas Cowboys one for David, but the Rams was all they had. He likes it. It’s a manly key.

After she took Catherine to the workshop, my mom took Carolynn to go to lunch with my Grandpa and my dad. (Where apparently Grandpa announced he would be purchasing Carolynn a bed.) They went to a place called Mama Carpino’s. I do not know where it is, but they have some good food. Carolynn went on and on about how good the spaghetti was. She ate a lot of it I understand. My mom brought back some chicken fettuccine and a half of a chicken Parmesan sandwich. I ate the pasta and it was very delicious. David ate the sandwich and said that as soon as we get out of the red and back in black, we should go eat there.

All the boxes are unpacked, but there is still a lot to put away. We will still be working hard for a week or so before we are all finished. In the mean time, I have a job to get.

Happy 4th of July!

I hope everyone has a fabulous three day weekend.

I am still here and still alive and still leaching the neighbors internet. I usually get good reception in the bedroom, in the morning, and on Carolynn's computer. Tomorrow they will be giving me my own hook up which will be good. Then we can get on with some pictures and junk. Tuesday they are hooking up the phone. I know, who uses a landline right? It just comes with the cable, it probably won't get much use. It was the same at our last place. Wednesday they will be delivering our new refrigerator, which was so thoughtfully purchased for us by my Grandpa. Thank you Grandpa! You rock. For now we are keeping our food in an ice chest which has been thoughtfully filled with ice by my mom, my sister, and my brother. On Sunday, my mom's friend Karen will be bringing us a new couch and loveseat. That is so sweet of her. We had no where to sit. Karen also rocks!

I have noticed in the few short days I have been here, that people are a bit more friendly here in a small town. People chat me up in the Stater Bros. and at the gas station. People I don't even know are bringing me a place to sit. Nicole, the very nice rental agent, went above and beyond to get us this house after the other one fell through. I can't imagine anyone in San Diego doing that stuff.

Today the girls and I are going over to my mom's house for a little holiday barbecue. Sounds yummy. I believe David will be enjoying a Rambo marathon or something. I always wonder what he does when the girls and I go somewhere. I imagine he eats peanut butter and jelly and watches man movies or plays video games or something. Who knows? Catherine says he probably walks around in his boxers and pees with the door open.

Speaking of David, he already made a friend here. He went out yesterday on a job hunt and has some great possibilities. I bet he has a new job in a week. I had an interview yesterday. It went well, so maybe I will here from them again. I never heard back from the guy with the warehouse I interviewed with a couple of weeks ago. I have emailed him a few times and Jo Anna says he called her for a reference.

Well, that's the update for now. David and me and the girls are doing fine in our new house. We like our house. It's been hot outside so we haven't been in the yard much. The yard needs some work. The inside is almost all unpacked. The dishwasher and the water heater aren't working but they will fix those soon enough. So, until next time...

A Fresh Start

I have a house. It’s pretty cool. They could pick it up and plunk it a few miles closer to civilization, but we weren’t being choosy. I like the house itself. It has a cute little potbellied stove in the living room and glass display cupboards in the dining room. The yard is nice and big. It needs some work, but we are ready for it. We are still unpacking and getting settled. Now if I could just get a job to pay for this place, we'd be all set.

Yesterday was the second anniversary of this blog. I was too busy moving to do anything cool. Sorry. I am already over it.

I know it is supposed to be Wordless Wednesday. I will try and get to that later. Right now I would like to thank which ever of my new neighbors has the unsecured internet connection. Thanks pal. You’re a gem.

Monday was Trisha’s birthday. I hear she got herself some loot. Woo! LOOT! I sent her a card. She knows I am busy going crazy.
