Review of Harry Potter:End

I finished my book today!!!It was 1 of the 2 best books I've ever read!(the other Harry Potter)This is what happened:Harry,Ron,and Hermione found out about the chamber of secrets because it was written on the wall and under the writing was a petrified cat,Ms. Norris. Then Harry got in a quidditch accident and while he was in the hospital wing a person was petrified,Collin Creevley. He was talking to nearly headless nick(the ghost that has been haunting the grifindor tower)about how Nick couldn't get in the headless hunt because hes nearly headless. After that Harry went to Nick's deathday party. And he has been hearing voices in the wall. Then there was a dueling club where he got pared up with Malfoy. After dueling club there was anther attack,Justin and Nearly Headless Nick were petrified. Then they made a potion and Harry and Ron turned into Malfoy's sidekicks Crabbe and Goyle and Hermione turned into a cat on accident. Then Penelope Clearwater(Percey's girlfriend)and Hermione were petrified.Harry and Ron went to Hagrid's house and heard someone said follow the spiders and they did. They met Aragog the huge spider. And he told them Moaning Myrtle is the girl who got killed 50 years ago. Then they went to see Hermione even though she was petrified and they found a piece of paper in her hand. They read it and it said the thing that lived in the chamber was a basilisk the king of all serpents. So they went to the staff lounge to tell the teachers what they know but they found out what the teachers know.Ginny(Jinny)is trapped inside the chamber!!!
So they told Lockheart everything and went to save Ginny! They found the entrance
and went in.Harry left them alone while he went to save Ginny. When he got to her she was dieing because of Tom Riddle, also known as Lord Voldemort. She wrote in his diary gave Voldemort power. And he defeated the basilisk and defeated Voldemort for the third time by taking the fang of the serpent and stabbing the book. And almost everything was back to normal and they had feast to celebrate.:I thought this book was great.

The Road To Nowhere

I went over to the Best Buy to see if my camera was ready. They are still waiting on a part. I was looking at some really nice cameras while I was there. I REALLY want one. I mean REALLY REALLY want one. To the point that I am willing do stuff to get one. (No nothing criminal or dirty, people quit thinking that.) I am talking about cleaning, cooking, babysitting, car washing… anything it takes.

David and I took a drive to Barstow today. David is trying to expand his hunt for a better job. I like to get out of the house every now and again. First, we stopped at the outlet mall. Umm… there was nothing there. It was mostly closed up with only a handful of stores. There were plenty of places to eat right there though. We stopped and had some burgers at Bob’s Big Boy. We then drove through Barstow and went to Barstow Station. It used to be a cute little shop along the Route 66 with historic memorabilia and souvenirs. Now it is a dump with some old flea market type junk for sale and a liquor store. I did manage to find some cool post cards to send to Joey and Kayleigh. Barstow sucks. Just so you know.

I have been watching a lot of Gangland today. I am totally obsessed with this show. I am doing some cleaning and laundry. I need to get my uniforms ready for my week. I haven’t decided what is for dinner. I have been such a lazy bum the last few days.

Not Exactly Red Lobster

So I made fish for dinner. It was snapper and I got the recipe from the Food Network. And as usual, my fish turned out like poo. I just don’t understand it. Why can’t I make decent fish? I like fish. Red Lobster is one of my favorite restaurants. I like fish tacos. But when I buy it and try to cook it, I get poo. Maybe I better stick to eating out for fish and stick to cooking chicken. Anyone have any good chicken recipes?

Nights To Days

I have realized that I have been neglecting this here blog. Yep, I know there are few readers even left at this point. But, for you few that have stayed, I am sorry. I think I have realized what the problem is. See, when we lived in San Diego, I used to write about my job and fun stuff I did on the weekend. When that ended and I moved to the desert, I was writing about the move, the new area, the hunt for the new job. Then there was some small adventures we took along the way… The LA County Fair, trips to Las Vegas and Palm Springs. Then there were the thrills of finding that job and the super adventure to Georgia for training. But now… I work. I work strange hours. I work a lot. I haven’t time or money for fun trips. I can’t write about work, because most of my day is not for public viewing, and trust me, you don’t want to know. I occasionally post newspaper articles that are work related, but that is about it.

Anyway, I intend on changing that. Now that I am done working the midnight shift for the rest of this year, I have more time and energy. We were going to try and take a vacation to San Francisco, but I was unable to get vacation time. So instead we are going to take a camping trip. We leave first thing on October 6 and return the next evening. We will be camping at Yucaipa Regional Park, right outside of Oak Glen. There is a lake and hiking, as well as the apple picking and fall beauty of Oak Glen. It should be a fun time.

Catherine should start softball again soon. Carolynn was going to sign up, but she opted to get her nails done instead. She is still driving me nuts. She as band issues. She has PMS. She has pimples. She has attitude. She has terrible friends. It’s just a super fun ball of excitement. If you know where I can take her to have her adjusted or traded in, I’d appreciate it.

Tonight I am making fish for dinner. I am on a healthy kick. I finally have the time and energy to try and eat better. I feel a little better the last couple days.

Anyway, there is much to do. I will try and get more stuff on here. Maybe I will pick up a couple of new memes. That will help.

Randomness Of My Life

Carolynn was unable to get an alto saxophone for band this year. So she got a baritone saxophone. It’s like three times the size. I have to drive her back and forth to school to get her and the instrument to and from school. At first, she had a flute, but that was way too different from the saxophone and she was having trouble playing it. Anyway, she made up some story about how she was being forced into playing some flute and I went to the school and found out she was full of it and the teacher found her a saxophone.

Carolynn has been a giant pain in the butt the last few weeks. She rolls her eyes when I am talking to her, refuses to do chores, didn’t care that she didn’t pass her 7th grade state tests, is extra mean to her sister… The list could go on forever. So at this point, she is grounded. There are no friends and no other activities until this behavior stops. She has only until tomorrow night to get her chores done or she will miss the fall softball season. All school sports were canceled so she was going to sign up for softball. Tomorrow night is the last registration date. She also is in danger of losing her cell phone, iPod, laptop and TV.

Catherine is already signed up for softball this fall. She is very excited to play. She has all her softball equipment organized and ready. Practices will probably start right after Labor Day. She is hoping she gets to play with some of her friends. Her friend Tehja moved away this summer, so she was bummed about that. She has made some new friends at school though. She even walked over to one of her friends houses last night to do homework together.

Catherine has been exceptionally good lately. Actually, I am starting to wonder who stole the real Catherine and replaced her with this alien. Her room stays clean, she gets her homework done, and she does her chores. If anyone has seen the real Catherine, please let me know.

I only have 4 more days on the midnight shift. Then I get a month working 8 to 4 and then a month working 6-2. Working 6-2 is my favorite shift. Also, I will have Tuesdays and Wednesdays of for the next two months. I am just glad the midnights shift is over, for now anyway. I will find out my schedule for the rest of the year in a few weeks. Then I will know what I will be working on the holidays.

Drizella, our new puppy, is settling in nicely with just a few minor problems. First, she likes to use Gibby as a chew toy. Gibby likes to play with her, but does not appreciate her trying to carry him around like a puppy. Gibby has been trying to steal all of Drizella’s chews. We give her rawhides and bones that are her size and Gibby takes them. They are too big for Gibby but he drags them off and lays on them. Another problem is Drizella thinks she and Gibby are the same size. When I come home, Gibby gets excited and jumps on me so I will pick him up. Drizella tries to do that and I get knocked over. She is a good dog and she is smart and has been easy to train. Someone else must have housebroken her, because she hasn’t had a single accident. I have taught her to sit, lie down and shake hands (paws). Just FYI, Gibby sits, lays down, jumps, sits up, dances and just about has roll over down. Gibby also wears clothes, sleeps with me in my bed, and goes with me in the car. Last year he got a Cowboys jersey for football season. He out grew that, he was just a puppy then. He has a Dodger’s jersey for baseball season. Maybe I should get him a new football shirt. What team should he sport this season? Should we get him a tiny basketball jersey too? What team?

The door to the garage broke. Last time it was the big garage door, this time it is the door that leads from the house to the garage. This house is old and always needs something. I am looking forward to buying my own house, perhaps soon. Probably in the spring time though. They are supposed to be here to repair the door this morning.

I know there haven’t been as many pictures around here, but my camera is still in the shop. If someone wanted to give me a super cool new camera, that would be great. A nice Nikon would be super. I should have my old camera back soon, or else a comparable replacement.

That covers everything I can think of for now.

The Start of Harry Potter

I read the beginning of Harry Potter book 2.Harry was living with the Dursley's and Ron Weasly(1 of Harry's best friends)broke him out because they were holding him hostage. Then he stayed with the Weasleys. Then they went to fire place passage way and he thought he got lost in it, but he was just in Diagon Alley. That was all I read.

Stairway To Heaven

During the course of my shift at work, I walked up and down a flight of stairs a minimum of 26 times last night. That is like walking up a 26 story building. Each flight of stairs has 18 steps. That is 468 steps. And I do this a minimum of twice a week, sometimes more. And that doesn't include all the regular walking I do. Seriously, is it any wonder my whole body aches at the end of my shift? Who needs a Stairmaster? Who needs a gym? I have 8 hours in a prison, 5 days a week.

Time For A Story

Let me tell you a story. It’s a story or lost and found. It’s a story of welcome. It’s the story of a surprise I have been torturing people with for days.

About two weeks ago, we lost out cat Kitty. Frankly, I have been very upset by this. First of all, we lost our cat Cleo several months ago. I was sad about that, but it wasn’t as devastating of a loss as we had not had her as long. However, we have had Kitty nearly four years. She has been through 4 moves, a divorce, other dogs and cats, and anything else. She is a funny cat who walked on a leash and enjoyed riding in the car and going to PetSmart. It is a sad loss. Especially for David. She was technically his cat. He got her when he first moved to California. He spoiled her. She spent most of her time on his lap.

The strange thing about the two losses of cat… They were identical disappearances. Both happened on a Saturday when no one was home. Both times the garage door was not working properly. Both cats were indoor cats, well cared for, groomed and micro chipped. Both were wearing collars with their names and phone numbers. All that and they never ran off before. I right away reported them missing at all local shelters. I continued to look for them there. Especially Kitty. I have been hitting the shelters every couple of days looking for her. I even went a couple of mornings, right after work, still in uniform, asking neighbors if they had seen her. To no avail. I have come to the sad conclusion that someone is stealing our cats. Across the street from our house is a big empty field where I suppose they could have met coyotes, but I never knew them to go across that way. Usually they went and walked around behind the house, occasionally venturing into the alley between houses. Back there is all residential. It is not likely that coyotes roamed that close to homes.

We still have Betty. That is the cat we got when we lost Cleo. Carolynn was very upset by the loss of Cleo so I got Betty from the shelter. She is a good cat. She does like to nibble on people a little, but she doesn’t claw the furniture or pee on the carpet. I had already decided that if we couldn’t find Kitty, we weren’t getting any more cats. The yard just can’t contain them, and the girls are just not good enough at keeping the cat box clean. Besides, we have dogs.

We have our old beagle, Elvis. He is 8 now and we have had him since he was a puppy. My mom’s friend Helen gave him to us and she named him Elvis. She is a huge Elvis fan, and, after all, he ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog. He is getting pretty lazy in his old age. He got all pooped after one jog around the park. But he is a good dog. He doesn’t go in the house and he doesn’t bark and howl much. He does snore pretty loud. He is definitely Catherine’s dog. He sleeps in her bed with her. She feeds him and brushes him. She chases him around the yard. He’s been her dog since they were both younger and Catherine used to try and ride him around the house in Wisconsin. He hiked all the trails of the Lake County, Illinois hiking guide. He rode to Wisconsin and back. He doesn’t fetch or do many tricks. But we love him.

Then there is Gibby. He is Pomeranian and Chihuahua. Gibby is my dog all the way. From the day I picked him up, he has been mine. My mom bought him for me and my dad and my Grandpa named him Gibby, after the baseball player Kirk Gibson. He is a Dodger dog after all. He goes where I go. I take him to the park, to my moms, to the concerts each week. When I worked at the pet store, I even took him to work. He follows me all day. He sleeps in my bed. David says he mopes around when I am not here. I have taught him a bunch of tricks. He fetches and loves to play Frisbee. He wears clothes and I spoil him. I love him.

Anyways, on Saturday, Catherine and I were out running errands. We were going to the bank and to softball sign ups. I decided to check once again for Kitty at the shelters. Usually I go alone, but, this time I had Catherine. We went to one, the softball sign ups, and then another. No cat. Finally we went to the last one. Still no cat. But Catherine wanted to look at the dogs. No harm in that. I had no intention of getting one. So we walked down the range and saw all the dogs. I was surprised at the amount of small dogs like Gibby. The people who worked at the shelter said that people get the little dogs because it is trendy now, but don’t realize how much work they are. It is sad really. We also saw a lot of pit bull puppies. That is just not responsible pet ownership in my opinion. At the end of the row, we came to a cage with a German Shepherd puppy. The man working there said it was a purebred someone had bought and then decided they couldn’t have a big dog where they lived. He thought it was an apartment. She was very pretty. They called her Roxy. While we were talking to the shelter guy (he was feeding her) a lady came and put another dog in the same cage (it was a pit bull puppy) and said she was going to take Roxy out for her daily walk and to the exercise yard. They asked Catherine if she would lie to do it. Of course she did. She took Roxy out to the exercise yard and threw a ball for her for a bit. We were in love. We couldn’t very well leave her there at the shelter.

This wasn’t nearly as willy-nilly as it may seem. There was reasoning behind it. First, there was David. David, who despite popular opinion, has never been anything but good to us. David who works at a crappy job, while constantly searching for another one. David who goes to college. David who takes good care of the girls and everything else while I work. David who gives me nearly every dime he makes to pay his share. He may not be very tidy and he may enjoy a lot of video games, but he is a pretty good person and a good friend. He just lost his cat. He has been saying for years that one day he’d like a real manly dog, specifically a German Shepherd or an Australian Sheep dog. I actually looked into getting him one once, but it was $300 to $500 for one and that didn’t include shots or having it fixed. If you adopt a dog from the shelter, it is $75 and all of the shots and the fixing is included. Of course, what are the chances you are going to find a pure German Shepherd puppy in a shelter?

Then there are the people at my work. They encourage me to make sure and keep my home safe. Truthfully, I could be a target. I have heard of a state correctional officer, in Michigan I think, that was killed on her way home from work simply because she was a cop. I want to make sure my home stays safe. Many people have encouraged me to own a gun, but they are very expensive. Yes, I am very educated in them now and am qualified to carry them at work and being a federal officer, I am within my rights to own and carry one all the time. They used to scare me, but now that I am educated, I know how to deal with them. But they are just so expensive. Plus all the safety accessories I will insist on having will be another huge expense. Maybe one day, but not now. David owns a really neat WWII Russian rifle. It is very cool, but not exactly for home protection. It’s wooden and as tall as me. It is a real working gun however.

More than one officer has suggested we have a good guard dog. I know a guy who raises pit bulls. Like I said the other day, not my thing, but a guard dog sounds like a good idea. My kind of protection. Besides, I love animals. Just ask my mom about the menagerie of pets I had as a child. Everything from dogs and cats to goats, chickens and potbellied pigs. And a German Shepherd certainly is your traditional police dog.

So there we were. I paid the $75 on Saturday, as well as made a donation to the shelter of another $10. Of course there is a law preventing the shelter from allowing us to take her home before she was fixed. (A very good law that I am totally for) And they don’t do that unless the dog gets adopted. Why fix a dog that doesn’t get a home? Sad but true, I know. The shelter is closed on Sunday and Monday and they do their spaying and neutering on Tuesday, so we had to wait until today to pick her up. That is why you all had to wait until now to hear the news.

That gave us time to go out and get her some stuff. That is one of the real reasons we were at PetSmart on Saturday. Yes, we did buy dog food for Gibby and Elvis. But we bought large breed puppy food as well. We bought her a new bowl. (That is what was in the hint picture.) We got her a collar and some toys. We got all the stuff we needed for her. What we didn’t have was a name.

I suggested a nice German name. I made a list of ones I liked. Emma, Ella, Gertrude, Helga, Hanna… it was a heck of a list. I got it off a website for German names. The girls wanted to call her Zelda. It is a German name, and also a video game. In the end we left it to David. He wanted to call her Drizella. He apparently had a German Shepherd growing up named Drizele. He just loved that dog. Drizella is the name of one of the evil step sisters in Disney’s Cinderella. It was a Brothers Grimm tale and they were German brothers. So it worked.

So here she is, Drizella. She had surgery this morning so she is just chilling. The girls have been so excited all weekend waiting. I could have picked her up at 2, but the girls wanted to go so I had to wait until they got home. Then when we got there, they were having a hard time getting her to wake up from the drugs, so we had to wait. That means I had to wait to tell everyone else. She will be fine in a few days and ready to play with Gibby, chase the cat and annoy Elvis.

Just A Tease

This is all you get until tomorrow when the news will be revealed. HA! But just for fun, here is a picture of Gibby. He is cute. You can never have too much cute. And he wants to know what the news is too.

Highly Recommended

They changed my hours last night from midnight to 8 to 10pm to 6am. So I got home two hours early. Now I am off until Tuesday night. Yesterday morning I stopped at Jack In The Box and got breakfast for me and the girls. I had this Chorizo egg burrito and it was so good. Carolynn wanted one, but I had got her the croissant sandwich she likes. So this morning I stopped and got her the burrito. She got up early and ate it and went directly back to bed. It is good, but a little spicy. I highly recommend it.

After I enjoyed my morning sleep, Catherine and I went to the Best Buy to see if I had a warranty on my camera, which had been broken since Catherine’s softball championships. As it turns out, I did still have a warranty, so they are sending it out for repair. If it cannot be repaired, then I get a new one. This is why I love Best Buy and always buy my electronics there and get the warranty. It is so worth it. Just another thing I highly recommend.

Yesterday Catherine signed up for the fall softball season. It is a non-competitive season. She should have fun and get her more improved for the spring season. It was also cheaper. After the softball sign ups, we went for ice cream at McDonald’s and then to PetsMart for the dog food. They were having a pit bull adoption drive there. They had some really pretty dogs there. But Pit Bulls are very difficult. They have a lot of high energy and require a lot of handling. They are not my kind of dogs. I got my Gibby. After the PetsMart, we went to the Winco for the food. I had a craving for old fashioned root beer barrels. I got a big bag of them.

The girls completed their first week of school. They are enjoying it so far. We didn’t end up going to this week’s concert in the park. It was just so windy. Also, I was going to meet some friends there and one of them had a death in the family. I was so sad for her.

Earlier I was doing some laundry and I got new laundry soap. It’s Gain Apple Mango Tango. It smells so good and then it gets the clothes really clean. I highly recommend it too.

For those of you who follow me on Twitter or are my Facebook friends, you already know we have an announcement coming on Tuesday. Come back tomorrow for a little hint.

Back To School

The girls went back to school yesterday. Carolynn started 8th grade, her final year of middle school before she moves into high school. Can you believe that? Catherine started 5th grade, her final year of elementary school before middle school. How did my kids get so old? They were all decked out in their new school clothes and with their new book bags. Carolynn made me get up and drive her. I don’t know why. She is perfectly capable of taking the bus. She didn’t have a large amount of supplies. She didn’t need me to help her find out where her classes were. Catherine did. She had a lot of supplies (to keep in her desk and boxes of tissues for the class. She had a list.). I went to the school early yesterday to look for her name on the list and see what teacher she had. She wanted a certain teacher really bad, and was totally against this other one. (Please mom, don’t let me be is Mrs. Lord’s class. She is sooo mean.) So Catherine is in Mrs. Lord’s class. Turns out she wasn’t as mean as she had thought. She rode the bus to school to see if her friends were still on it. Her best friend Tejha moved to Oregon over the summer so she was a little sad about that. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of the girls on their way to school.

Catherine on her way to 5th grade.

Carolynn on her way to 8th grade.

Yesterday I was off. It is so quiet here during the day now. I am going to do some house cleaning and some other errands. Tonight I have to work. I have two and a half weeks more of morning watch, and then I switch from midnight to 8am to 8am to 4pm. I am looking forward to it.

This is going to be a quiet week. With the girls back in school, there will be less going on around here. On Thursday we will go to the concert in the park. This week it is a country band. Yesterday we made pork chops for dinner. Today I am making a Puerto Rican beans and rice dish. A friend taught it to me many years ago and I haven’t made it in a long time.

Yesterday David and I went to see Funny People. It was good. I enjoyed it. If you go to the first showing in the morning, it’s only $5. With the kids in school and my days off during the week, it is nice to have somewhere cheap to go.
