Thirteen Benefits Of Carolynn Being Home Schooled

1. She will have more time with her dear old Mom.
2. She can learn her own way.
3. I will always know what she is learning in school and be able to help her.
4. I won’t have to worry about whom she is spending her time with and what they are telling her.
5. She has more free time.
6. She can play sports. She is going to give softball a go pretty soon.
7. She is a much nicer person.
8. She probably won’t need to write any death to teacher notes.
9. She can go on more field trips.
10. She doesn’t have to get up so early.
11. She can dye her hair pink and purple.
12. She can spend more time with her friend Alex down the street.
13. She will be a better person and thank me when she is grown up… At least I hope.

Being Parental

As many of you who follow me on Twitter or on Facebook may already know, we are not having a good day around here. Since last year around this time, Carolynn started making some bad decisions. She was hanging out with the wrong kids. She was ditching classes and got Saturday school. Her grades have been falling. She has been late to a lot of classes. She got kicked out of band. When she can’t go near her friends, like Christmas break and Fall break, she is a whole different person. I have been trying to figure out what to do with her for a while. This morning the principal at her school called and gave me little choice. Carolynn did something pretty bad. She wrote a note that was very disparaging toward a certain teacher. The note included this teacher’s death. Carolynn is lucky that the teacher or the school didn’t press charges. The school gave me several options of how to deal with this. Because she hadn’t been in any major trouble before and because she actually has a parent who is involved, the principal was willing to work with us. After looking into several possibilities, I have made the decision to home school her for awhile. That way, I am in control and I make the choices she couldn’t. I am also taking her to a psychologist. Yep, it’s going to be hard and I am going to need some serious help, but I am not letting my child travel down a bad path. I have to do what I think is right here. I think this is right for us.

Carolynn is pretty mad. I have taken her computer privileges. I have taken her phone. I have taken her iPod. I have taken her friends and her school. She is miserable. I am not sure which one of us is being punished more.

So here we go, this should be a new adventure. I have enrolled her in the home school program and am just waiting to hear from them.

Until next time…

Light and Healthy

Since the beginning of the year, we have been trying to be a little healthier. I have been keeping up on my Wii Fit. I have been taking vitamins; a multi-vitamin, a calcium, and a vitamin C. I have been trying to get more regular exercise. We have been walking to the park near our house. It’s about 2 miles. The dogs have been really enjoying it. Drizella gets upset if we don’t go. Now if I could just do better with the dieting.

The kids went back to school this week. I was sort of sad to see them go. Since I don’t often have weekends off, it was nice having them home when I am. And Carolynn acts much more like a human being when she doesn’t spend all day with her loser friends.

For those of you who were wondering, our kitten is doing better. Her cold is clearing up and the vet says that was all she had. She will stay on antibiotics for another week or so. She will stay on immune booster for a few months and she will stay on the vitamins for a couple of months. The vet had her records going back to when the shelter got her. She basically spent her whole life there. Anyway, she is doing good. Carolynn may have named her Muffins, but we call her the IBK. Itty Bitty Kitty.

Today I am off. It’s nice when I get days off. Last week I worked two 16 hour days. Tonight we have plans to eat healthy snacks and play Cranium. Tomorrow it’s back to work. I work 6am to 2pm until Saturday, the 8am to 4pm next week. The week after that I work 7:30am to 3:30pm.

I am trying to keep up with this blog. The more I work, the harder it gets. I have a few ideas for some posts in my head and I will try and do better with some Wordless Wednesday or some Thursday 13. Maybe I will try a few new videos. I used to write everyday. Now I go a week or more sometimes. At least I am not the only one who is slacking in blogs lately. (Trisha, Pam… You know who you are.)

Until then…

Happy New Year!

I know it has been a few minutes since I updated. It is nice to see you missed me. I hope everyone had a nice holiday season. I hate to be a humbug, but I am glad it is over. It was so hectic and cost money I needed for other things. It was so nice to eat all that yummy food and see everyone. But all that extra work and partying wore me out.

I have been working a lot. A LOT! The paychecks will be fat. Work is good. I finally finished my probation. WOO! I made it. Not only that, but I was promoted from a 5 officer to a 6. A little more money in the paycheck. It comes with some new posts to try and new stuff to learn. This is going to be a great year of work. I don’t know why I love my job, I just do.

Christmas was good. I worked on Christmas Day. We celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. The girls got a ton of good stuff. Carolynn got the iPod she has been wanting. Catherine got a ton of Pokémon. I got a new sweater and some chocolates. David got a Super Mario game. Carolynn also wanted a kitten. I don’t know why. We have a cat. We unfortunately lost two cats last year. We have three dogs. She still wanted a kitten. A kitten named Muffins. She had lost her mind.

Anyway, I went to the shelter last week to pick up the dogs tags and Carolynn fell in love with a little gray kitten. Muffins had arrived. The shelter said she is 6 months old. They also said she had a cold and they gave her 10 days of antibiotics. They said she was clear to take home. But after a week, she was sick again. I took her to the vet. They ran a bunch of tests and gave her some medicine. They still are not sure what exactly is wrong, but they don’t think it is fatal or major. The shelter covered part of the expense. My ex-husband is sending some money to cover it for his child.(He didn't want to see her cry and he didn't want the kitten to be sick either.) And she should be fine soon.

Our New Year’s Eve was fun. We had snacks and played games quietly at home. I had to work New Years Day.

Anyway, 2009 is gone. It went by so fast. But it was a great year. 2010 is going to be even better. To commemorate the occasion, I made this video. Enjoy peeps. Happy 2010!
