Run Over By Christmas

I feel like I may have missed Christmas. I love Christmas. I love going to bed on Christmas Eve after filling the stockings knowing the kids are going to be excited in the morning. I love waking up to excited little voices spelunking through their stockings and poking through the packages under the tree. I love watching them open their presents in their jammies. I love spending the day in my jammies and making a fabulous dinner and eating it with my family. I love playing the new games and watching the kids play too.

This year on Christmas Eve, I was at work. I got home after 4 pm and the girls were with their dad. I did fill those stockings but I had to go to bed earlier than the kids because I had to be back at work on Christmas Day at 6 am. I was long at work when the girls got up and explored their stockings. They were dressed and ready to go by the time I got home after 2 pm. They quickly opened their packages before we went over to my brothers house. Nathan and Allison enjoyed their presents and Nicole was cooking in a hurry because my brother had to get to work that night. Then I had to get home anyway, because I had work on Sunday morning. Everything felt so rushed.

Today I am finally cooking our Christmas Ham. But it just doesn't feel the same. I have to do some cleaning today and go get the battery replaced in the truck. (I left the lights on for 16 hours while I was at work and ruined the battery. DUH!) My brother is going to come by for some ham tonight on his way to work. The kids love their presents, but it's been days. They are over it already.

I missed it.

Christmas Grinch

Yep, for some things, I can be a Christmas Grinch. I was thinking about the Christmas Ornament Exchange Party we had last year. It was fun. So then I was thinking about doing it again this year. Then I thought again.

Last year, I only knew a limited amount of people. Now I know a ton of people. Some of those people I know but don't particularly care for. Some of those people I only know at work and I don't care to know them outside of work. Not because they are bad people, but because work is all we have in common. Then there are people who I would like to know better outside of work.

Then I have family, old friends, David friends, and David family. Of course, David's family lives out of state and so do some of my old friends, so that is kind of a bummer.

The real problem now, how do you choose some people and not others? How do you not hurt people's feelings? What if I invite two people who hate each other or something? Forget it.

It seems like a hassle coupled with a burden wrapped in a bother.

A Day In The Life

The Best Man For The Job

An inmate was being a jerk. As a matter of fact, it was this inmate. I wrote him up for his interfering with my count. I sent the report off to the lieutenant. He called me and asked me to send the inmate down to him at lunch to receive his incident report. At lunch time, I sent the inmate down to the office. A short time later, the lieutenant calls me and asks me to lock that inmate's cell and not to allow anyone in there. I did.

Before lunch was finished, another officer came around the corner. This officer was assigned to another unit, not near mine. I asked him what he was doing over there. He told me we were going to switch units. You see, this officer is highly skilled at looking for and finding contraband. I expect that something that inmate said when he went to the lieutenants office made the lieutenant think there would be something worth finding. And this other officer was absolutely the best man for the job. So I packed my stuff and we traded units. No problem.

And he did find stuff. I don't know what he found in that inmates cell, but I heard later that afternoon that he ended up getting into a little scuffle with an inmate flushing drugs a few cells over. He is so good at that. I always enjoy working with him. You never know what might happen. He finds all the good stuff. Unfortunately, inmates hate him. I worry about him. But he is a good officer. He can handle it.

A Day In The Life

It's Better Than Most

I am at work. Nothing amazing going on all day. It's a basic day. I was in a housing unit, minding my own business, doing my job.

An inmate in this unit is a well known flasher. And he is following me around. He is fully dressed. He hasn't done or said anything crazy yet. But I am aware of his history and I am wary.

He asks me random questions throughout the day. He asks the time, for toilet paper, for paper, if I will be back the next day, on and on. Finally, I tell him to get lost...

Me- Listen, I got your number. I know you. So why don't you find someone else to bother. I am working.

Inmate- What do you mean by that?

Me- You know what I mean, now go.

Inmate- So what you are saying is I am not your type?

Me- No inmate will ever be my type.

Inmate- So if I did something, you wouldn't let me get away with it, not just one time?

Me- Hell no.

Inmate- Well, at least I asked. That's more than most guys do.

Me- You got me there.

And then that inmate learned a valuable lesson...

Sexual proposal to staff will land you in hot water just as fast as whipping it out.
